… is now one of three remaining nominees. The fourth ballot is just being cast now and the three people on it are Jordan Cantwell, Andrew Richardson, and John Young. Also- an update on the process- if one person receives more than half the votes, they will be declared the new Moderator, so it may happen after this ballet, or we may have one more ballet after this.
…is one of twelve gifted individuals who have put their name forward as nominees. You can find their bios and the answers to some “get to know you” questions, here: http://www.gc42.ca/moderator-nominees
On Monday, all twelve addressed the court of GC42 for five minutes, in three sets of four speakers each. If you’d like to watch the videos of the speeches, here they are:
Tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 13, the commissioners will begin voting, probably around 9am NDT, which is 6:30am our time. Each round of voting, the nominee who gets the least amount of votes will be taken off the ballet, as well as any other nominees who fall below a certain percentage of the votes cast. So we can expect the first round of voting tomorrow to cut the field down quite a bit, and then every ballet after that will likely cut one nominee, until one remains. While this method take more time, the benefit is that if a person’s first choice is eliminated earlier on in the voting, they may continue to vote for their choice of who remains, and so the voting body converges together on the chosen nominee, rather than someone winning with only a small percentage of votes. The announcements of previous ballot results and the names on the next ballot will happen throughout the day tomorrow, with the newly elected Moderator to be announced just before dinner break, likely around 5pm NDT, which is 2:30pm our time. I will update on the blog tomorrow as I can!
